clear values = easy decisions

I have a confession to make, I love Disney! The films, theme parks, merchandise, characters… everything!

The story of the Disney company also happens to be an interesting one. They had a very clear vision of what they wanted to achieve. Roy E Disney, the brother of Walt Disney is credited with saying “When your values are clear to you, your decisions become easier”.

I’m confident that Roy was talking about values in business, but this is just as applicable to life as it is business.

The first step is to establish what your values are. This sounds simple but can be challenging. Your values are a list of the things that are important to you in life. Ask yourself, what’s really important to you? Below is a brief list of examples…

  • Family
  • Freedom
  • Community
  • Balance
  • Creativity
  • Charity
  • Health
  • Legacy
  • Security
  • Fun

Once you know your values, they determine your priorities in life and can guide your decisions. For instance, if family is one of your values, a 70 hour working week doesn’t match up. When your values are clear, it will guide your decisions in how to spend your time and energy. You will know when to say yes and no to make your life happier.

In financial planning, we want to know your values so that we can align your money to fund the decisions that make your life happiest. With this knowledge, we can help you to make good decisions on how to spend your time and money in the short, medium and long-term.

When your vision is clear, the decisions are easy. It’s no coincidence that our company name is Clear Vision…. This is why we work hard to understand what really matters to our clients. We want to know what is important to you. Once we know this, the decisions around money and your financial planning strategy become significantly easier.
